    I know the frustration of static 'attraction' with styrene debris well. My solution is simply to spit on my hands and rub them together over the waste bin, the moisture kills the static electricity. Discusting maybe but it works for me. Bit late but somebody might read it!

    What kind of glue did you use for the styrofoam? Was it PVA glue? Because that's a very big tube for gluing it down.

    • @StevesSmallWorld
      @StevesSmallWorld 10 місяців тому

      I used builders caulk to stick the Styrofoam down. Pva is fine to use but dot it when doing large areas to avoid warp and help it dry.

    I find my foam doesn't hold on very well once it has dried -- should I be spraying the finished tree with anything to seal it?

    • @StevesSmallWorld
      @StevesSmallWorld 10 місяців тому

      Agree with you it seems to lose the tac of the glue over time. I want to try dipping in latex to seal it, on my experiment list to try.

      @@StevesSmallWorld So I made a new batch but this time I used waaay less paint, and just worked that small amount of paint into the foam over a longer period of time. When it dried it was so much lighter and fluffier, and actually clumped together better! I've had some test trees drying overnight and so far none of them have dropped any pieces, even when shaken. I think the weight of the paint is just too much, try cutting the paint and report back!

    I use a badly weathdred piece of mdf which has got very fluffy. Break into small pieces, put into your coffy grinder dry and it gives good fluffy material. Add a small ammount of artists acrylic paint directly from the tube to the fluff in the coffee grinder znd give it a whizz. Product is almost ready to use. After a short drying time, a quick pass through the coffee grinder will ensure any fibres stuck together are separated.

      Static does make things interesting lol. I have been told a wet wipe to wipe your fingers reduces it , I am tempted to put an antistatic cable on my work top and connect it to the metal desk legs to see if it helps.
